Our Own Enterprises
From the very beginning, Crossover has done more than simply help clients find work. We make work! Our social enterprises both employ local people and provide income for our community projects.
On the same site we have St Paul's Day Nursery, which Ofsted recently declared (January 2009) to provide GOOD education and care for pre-school children. The Day Nursery provides jobs for more than 20 local people and offers support and training for those entering the childcare profession. Our qualified staff are always undertaking extra training opportunities and the senior staff are all working towards degree level qualifications in childcare. Visit our website at www.stpaulsnursery.co.uk
St Paul's Conference Centre offers quality accomodation for 2 - 150 people for conferences, training events, meetings and other activities. We offer both formal and informal room arrangements, and offer excellent in-house catering which regularly receives glowing praise. At certain times of the week, we reserve the Centre for our own projects including informal learning opportunties, lifestyle courses, and our popular ABC (Adults, Babies and Children). During most school holidays, the Conference Centre also provides a venue for the Bordesley Green Ideal Playscheme. The Conference Centre website is at www.stpaulscrossover.org.uk
Behind the 97 bus stop, which goes straight into Birmingham City Centre, you will find the popular Crossover Cafe. As you might expect from Crossover, it is a cafe with a difference - in fact several differences. We have 2 professionally trained cooks. Most of our food is home cooked. You can stay all day if you really want to! The daily specials are a popular choice for those who like to eat their main meal at lunch time and include roasts with all the trimmings.
Altogether we currently employ around 40 people and have at least as many volunteers contributing to the vibrant place that is St Paul's Crossover.
And the future...
Temporary imagePlans are afoot to create more jobs in Bordesley Green and Hodge Hill. The recession has signalled the fact that a lifetime in one job is likely to be the exception rather than the norm in England. At Crossover, as well as creating more jobs within the organisation through developing more social enterprise activities, we aim to assist individuals with an idea to create their own businesses. It won't end there, however. We will continue to support people, providing advice, book-keeping assistance, premises and whatever else we can do, to remove the barriers which prevent genuine endeavour being rewarded.
We believe that through our activities and presence in Bordesley Green we are working with others to make Bordesley Green a place where people want to live, work and play. Come and find out for your self!
